Hello all you hockey fans!

HP here, reporting in from Hawaii on January 5th 2007.

Well, Timster just got word via text message that we have again won GOLD in the World Juniors (Canada that is). So that's just great of course.

We tried to see the game this morning but the two pubs we tried could not get it on the satellite feed. Oh well.

As for Canucks, we went to Legends Sports Bar on Wed. nite. It is conveniently located less than a block from our hotel! There were several clusters of Vancouverites sitting around two TV's taking it all in... until of course the "feed" went kaput with 4 minutes left and tied 1-all with Dallas.

We all gathered around a fellow with his Blackberry (reminiscent of folks huddled around the radio to listen to Foster Hewitt circa the 40's!) as we listened to him call out the latest overtime and shootout results from canucks.com.

It was quite slow, so I finally thought... what the hell, I'm going to call
Lisa Ovens - the grand mistress of hockey and high heels - and she will tell me over my cell phone what's up.

Fortunately, Lisa was home and I watched with excitement as the gang cheered when I told them Luongo made the final save in the shootout!

Tonight (Friday) we will go to Round Table Pizza sports bar and meet the same group to watch the Oilers matchup. I will be submitting pics upon my return to the "Mainland" January 8.

So, if you were wondering, hockey fever is alive and well in Waikiki!

Aloha, Helen P.
